WINNIPEG, Manitoba - After a scoreless tie in its last game of pool play against Uruguay, the U.S. men's soccer team advanced to the XIII Pan Am Games semifinals where it will meet Mexico on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Maryland senior Jason Cropley (La Canada, Calif.), and sophomores Dan Califf (Orange, Calif.) and Taylor Twellman (St. Louis, Mo.) are all members of the U.S. team that finished in the second slot in Pool B and earned the right to advance to the semifinals.
After a 1-0 decision over Cuba to open the games, the U.S. suffered a 2-1 loss to Honduras, which remains the only undefeated team in either pool going into the semifinals with a 4-0 record. The U.S. team also recorded a 2-1 victory over Jamaica, guaranteeing the team a slot in the semifinals before it played to a 0-0 tie on Saturday against Uruguay.
The U.S. team's record of 2-1-1 was good enough for second in the pool behind undefeated Honduras, allowing it to advance to the semifinals. Canada and Mexico were the top two finishers from Pool A. Honduras and Canada will face each other on Tuesday, while the U.S. team will take on Mexico on Wednesday.
The gold medal game will take place on Sunday, while the battle for the bronze medal will be played on Friday. All games are at 7 p.m. MT.
