
Eight Hall Of Fame Inductees Named

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland's "M" Club has announced a cast of eight inductees to its annual athletic hall of fame induction, to be held at the "M" Club Sports Award Banquet on May 5. The Athletic Hall of Fame, founded in 1982 by the "M" Club as a join project with the department of intercollegiate athletics, recognizes Terrapin athletes who have contributed to the honor and fame of the university's sports program. The 2000 inductees: John Baker, track (1971) -- Baker was a two-time All-American and the first Terrapin ever to break 4:00 in the mile run. Vicky Bullett, women's basketball (1989) -- A first team All-American and a two-time U.S. Olympian, Bullett is the school's career scoring and rebounding champion. She helped guide the Terps to three ACC championships and a trip to the 1988 Final Four. She has played professionally since her graduation from Maryland and currently is a member of the Washington Mystics after playing three seasons with the Charlotte Sting and starting in the inaugural WNBA All-Star Game last summer. Jerry Claiborne, football coach (1972-81) -- Recently inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, Claiborne won three ACC titles and guided the Terps to seven bowl games during his tenure at College Park. He directed Maryland to an undefeated regular season in 1977 and a No. 8 final ranking. Mike Farrell, lacrosse (1976) -- Farrell was a three-time first team All-American who was named the nation's outstanding defenseman as a senior in 1976. Kevin Glover, football (1985) -- Glover played on a pair of ACC championship teams under coach Bobby Ross and was named a first team All-American as a senior. He starred in three bowl games for the Terps and currently is an NFL veteran of 15 years, currently with the Seattle Seahawks. Dick Shiner, football (1963) -- An honorable mention All-American in 1963, Shiner is renowned for his distinction as the only Maryland quarterback ever to beat Penn State. Drafted in 1964 by the hometown Redskins, he later played with six different teams through an 11-year career in the NFL. Roy Skinner, soccer/lacrosse (1958) -- Skinner was a two-sport star at Maryland who helped bring home a national championship trophy in lacrosse in 1956. He was an All-American halfback who also played on the Terps' soccer team. Bill Larash, lacrosse (1952) -- Now deceased, Larash was voted the nation's outstanding goalkeeper in men's lacrosse as a senior in 1952.
