Christian Lewis Journal No. 8- The Terps Begin To Come Together In October

I don't really know how many of my teammates read these journals, but this week it seemed like they all took to heart what I said in my last journal. We got two good wins by playing effective soccer. I will be honest there was very little attractive soccer in our win over VCU. After the game all my father talked about was how ugly the game was. I asked him what the score was and he understood my point. We got a great free kick goal from Abe and were able to hold off their attack with smart and efficient defending. The bottom line is that we came away with a hard fought regional win. What is even better is the fact that we are capitalizing our on offensive chances. Against George Mason we scored within the first minute and got three other goals by making the most of our chances. VCU outshot us 10-5 but we scored on our first shot and didn't give up a goal.
From these past two games I am getting the feeling that we are finally coming together as a team. Practices have been sharp and we have gotten the job done in the games. What's even better is that everyone has picked up their concentration and level of play especially Abe. He has added an element to our team that was not always present. He is working harder, making better runs, playing good defense, and scoring good goals when we need them. I feel like him stepping up has inspired everyone to play better.
This week we have two very important games to focus on. We have never played Duquesne so I do not know much about them. I do know that William and Mary will be a very difficult game for us. They always play us tough and last time they came to Ludwig they beat us 1-0. Last year, we had one of our best wins of the season as we beat them in overtime thanks to Kevin Schmidt's play in goal. William and Mary has already beaten Virginia this year which is no small task. If we can string together two more victories this week we will put ourselves in good position before our last ACC games. I know that this team is capable of winning all of our remaining games. We need to take confidence from this past week and have it carry over to the upcoming games. Our coach always says you need to play good soccer in October and great in November. I think we are playing good soccer and our on our way to greatness.
