
Barnard Named to Ray Guy Award Watch List

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - - University of Maryland punter Brooks Barnard has been named to the "watch list" for the inaugural Ray Guy Award. The award recognizes the nation's top punter and the watch list is comprised of 40 student-athletes.
Barnard, a sophomore, is currently ranked second in NCAA Division I-A with a 46.0 average per punt. For the season, he has been ranked no lower than 11th and has been as high as first. In his past two games he is averaging 50.4 yards per punt and has had boots of 67 and 71 yards.
The Ray Guy Award - again, recognizing the nation's best punter - will be presented on December 7, 2000 at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on ESPN. The show is broadcast from Orlando, Florida. The Ray Guy selection committee will choose 10 semi-finalists for the award by November 8 and then three finalists will be chosen on November 30. The finalists will be present for the announcement of the award in Orlando.
