MARYLAND COACH RON VANDERLINDEN
Media Luncheon Quotes
Oct. 24, 2000
on the state of his team: "After the Virginia game, we made it our intent to get better, to make improvement and re-focus. I felt that our effort at Clemson was a step in the right direction and in the Wake Forest game there is no question that we were a much better football team. I think that we have been playing hard and playing with a lot of emotion and enthusiasm."
on Duke: "...Right now, I am not looking ahead of Duke. Duke kept us out of a bowl game a year ago. I watched that game again last night before I went home, and I wish that I hadn't because that was a very frustrating game. We've got to get as ready as possible to go down to (North Carolina) and play our best game yet. Our only focus right now is on how we can find a way to get a win against Duke."
on where the Terps have improved in their preparation: "I think preparation is always a mindset. We needed to regain focus on what is important, and what is important is the day-to-day task at hand. Getting better fundamentally each and every practice and feeling like you gave a good effort and improved as a team every time you walk off the field. I think we did that and we regained our focus in a lot of areas."
on his overall goals for the Maryland program: "What we are trying to do here at Maryland is build a long-lasting, prideful program, try and recruit effectively, try to graduate all of my players and try to teach them how to win off the field as well as on. I am not trying to take any shortcuts...we are trying to think long term."
