I had the chance to talk with a few friends from the UNC team after our game this weekend. They looked back on their freshman year when they won six games all year and how difficult a season it was. Then we went on to talk about our season so far and how we should be better off than where we are. It is not easy when everyone tells you that you deserve better and we have en unlucky. While this has been a good part of the story to our season, this weekend was by far the worse for me. I had one of the worst games of my college career in one of the more important games of the season. We started the game on a mission to win, but as time progressed UNC grabbed hold of the game thanks to our mistakes.
As a team, we take great pride in playing attractive soccer. We like to keep the ball and possess as much as possible. UNC is a team that plays an effecitive combination of keeping the ball and playing more direct to their forwards. They do not play the most appealing soccer, but they do a good job and get the results when it matters. In my four year career I have seen many teams come to our home and leave with a win as a result of playing effective, yet unattractive soccer. This is very difficult to deal with especially since we usually dominate the game. To be honest, at this point I would be content with a victory any way it comes regardless of how pretty the game is. Sometimes it does not matter how you get the win, but as long as you get it. Right now all I want is a victory regardless of how we get it. Believe it or not, we still have a good shot at making the NCAA tournament if we start to find a way to limit our mistakes and win some important games.
