College Park, Md.- Maryland head football coach Ron Vanderlinden held his weekly press conference today as the Terps prepare for Georgia Tech. Coach Vanderlinden commented on the Yellow Jacket offense, the bowl implications, and all-ACC candidate LaMont Jordan.
Maryland head football coach Ron Vanderlinden on:
Georgia Tech: "They are an awful good football team. They are the second best team in the conference in my opinion. They have the total package both offensively and defensively. Their defense is second in the conference and they have 35 sacks on the season. In my opinion, they are on of the top-15 teams in the country."
The Yellow Jacket offense: "Their offense is as good as it has always been. Last week against Virginia they racked up over 600 yards of offense, which is just short of sensational. On third downs, they convert over 50% of the time. One thing about their offense that stands out to me is their balance."
Tech quarterback George Godsey: "Godsey is a good quarterback who has thrown just four interceptions in 288 attempts this season, which is just tremendous."
The challenge of facing Tech: "They are such a good team. It is a big challenge for us at home. We need to go out and play up to the competition to win this game Saturday."
The stakes of Saturday's contest: "It's just like last week. If we win, we become bowl eligible, if not, we finish 5-6 again. We have come a long way and I feel good about the program. We have established a nice program that is right there. Hopefully we can go out and get that sixth win."
The tough loss last Saturday at North Carolina: "Our players were down after the Carolina game. When you play so hard and come up just short, it is tough. This week we need to bounce back and mount a tremendous effort against a good Georgia Tech team."
The final home game for Terrapin all-time rushing leader LaMont Jordan: "He has had a great career. He has broke all the Maryland records and is third in the ACC in rushing. He is just a terrific player."
