College Park, Md.- University of Maryland football head coach Ron Vanderlinden held his weekly press luncheon today as the Terps prepare for North Carolina.
On North Carolina:
"They are a very talented football team. When you watch them on tape, you see lots of big, athletic personnel on both sides of the ball. They have 45 quarterback sacks. I do not believe that national stats are kept for sacks, but if that is not leading the nation, it is in the top five. They really are aggressive and they have great talent up front."
On the Tar Heel offense and quarterback Ronald Curry:
"Their pass offense is 31st in the nation. Ronald Curry, as everyone knows, is a terrific athlete. He can hurt you in a multitude of ways."
On the importance of the game for both schools:
"It is going to be a very challenging game for our football team. With their win over Pittsburgh on the road, they are playing for the exact same thing we are. We both have a lot at stake and we will have to play very well to beat them."
On the Terrapin quarterback situation:
"Shawn Hill Saturday played a very good football game. Other than the interception, it was as close to a great game as you could have. He led us from behind and he led us to victory both running and throwing the ball. Calvin, before he got hurt, was also playing very well. He has a slightly sprained ankle. It is a high ankle sprain, which makes it a little more challenging to recover from. I am very hopeful he will be ready to go on Saturday."
