Football: Rudolph, Kopka and Wike Earn Academic All-District Honors

Nov. 9, 2000

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland football players Scott Rudolph, Brian Kopka, and Todd Wike have been named to the Verizon CoSIDA Academic All-District team for the 2000 season.

Rudolph, a senior from Churchville, Md., has been named to the Academic All-District first team and earns a spot on the Academic All-America nomination form. A long snapper, Rudolph had started 39-straight games before injuring his knee against Clemson in game six of this season. He came to Maryland as a walk-on in 1997, but became a stalwart at long snapper before his injury. A Maryland scholar-athlete from 1997-99, Rudolph was also on UM's Dean's List in the fall of 1997 and the spring of 1998. He is a physical education major with a cumulative grade point average of 3.902.

Rudolph's special teams counterpart and roommate, Kopka (Hollywood, Fla.) is a second-team selection for the 2000 season. One of the top placekickers in school history, Kopka is now third on the Maryland career list for field goals and in points by a kicker, and has moved up to fifth on the Terps' all-time scoring list overall. A communications major, Kopka was a 1999 Academic All-district selection and a member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll. He currently carries a cumulative GPA of 3.779.

Wike has started every game this season at left guard on an offensive line that is leading the ACC in fewest sacks allowed. Just a sophomore, Wike has still started 19 of 20 games in his young collegiate career and was an Academic All-ACC selection as a frosh. A member of Maryland's student-athlete athletics council, Wike has a cumulative GPA of 3.306 and is a philosophy major.
