
Three Terrapins Receive Men's Soccer Postseason Honors

College Park, Md.- - Three Terrapins men's soccer players have received postseason honors for their performances during the 2000 season. Maryland ended the year at 10-9, despite crippling injuries at key positions.
Junior Nick Downing (Redmond, Wash.) received honorable mention All-American recognition from College Soccer Online after leading the Maryland defense to eight shutouts. Downing anchored a defense that gave up 1.30 goals per game en route to the 10-9 record. In addition to his honorable mention selection, Downing was also a first team All-South Atlantic Region selection this season.
Freshman striker Abe Thompson (Fairfax Station, Va.) hit the map this year for the Terps, scoring 13 goals and adding five assists for 31 points to lead the Terps in the scoring column. For his offensive efforts, Thompson received second team All-South Atlantic Region honors, marking his first postseason recognition of his collegiate career.
Second team All-ACC selection Rob Birch (West Islip, N.Y.) was honored with third team All-South Atlantic Region honors as well. A senior midfielder, Birch anchored the central midfield for Maryland and added three goals and an assist in 2000.
