COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Ken Jerry, a 6-2, 210-pound linebacker from Melbourne, Fla., signed a national letter of intent Friday to attend the University of Maryland, head coach Ron Vanderlinden announced.
Jerry is a teammate of Rovel Hamilton, a cornerback who signed with the Terps on Wednesday.
In earning team MVP honors this past season, Jerry totaled 99 tackles, including 60 solo efforts, from the strongside linebacker position. He earned first team All-Space Coast Conference and first team all-district honors from the Florida Athletic Coaches Association. He also was named to the Brevard County All-Star team and the East-West Central Florida All-Star team. Jerry has been nominated for the North-South Florida All-Star game.
Jerry totaled 63 tackles as a linebacker his junior season and 52 as a sophomore. He was a three-year varsity starter.
The signing of Jerry brings to 25 the number of signees in Maryland's 2000 recruiting class.
"As I examined our recruiting class it was apparent we could use another linebacker," said Vanderlinden. "I was impressed with Ken's speed, athleticism and ability to make plays. I am pleased he has decided to forego other offers and come to Maryland."
