Postgame Notes --- Brick On Pace To Become First Freshman To Lead ACC In Steals Since 1980

Feb. 20, 2000

Recap| Box Score

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Though a disappointing loss for the Terps on Sunday against Wake Forest ..... there were a few notes that came out of the game, reflecting the Terps' turnaround season -----

** Marche Strickland was 4 of 8 from 3-point range to raise her ACC-leading 3-point percentage to 43.1 percent and continue her bid to become the first Maryland player ever to lead the conference in 3-point accuracy.

** Strickland's four treys gave her 50 for the season and established the Tiffany Brown-Marche Strickland duo as only the fourth 3-point 50-50 tandem in ACC history. Brown leads the ACC with 66, Strickland is fourth with 50. Should Strickland finish with as many as 60 (two regular season games to go, and at least one ACC Tournament game), the Brown-Strickland duo would become only the second ever to reach 60-60. Both have exceeded Maryland's previous school record of 48, by Brown in 1998.

** Strickland's 23 points moved her past Virginia's Svetlana Volnaya on Sunday as the ACC scoring leader through 14 conference games, apiece. Strickland averages 15.9 ppg while Volnaya, with just six on Sunday vs. NC State, drops to 15.4. Strickland and Volnaya will play head-to-head in Thursday's home finale from Cole Field House.

** Brown, though 0 for 8 overall and 0 for 7 from 3-point range against Wake Forest, continues to lead the ACC in 3-point shooting. She would be the first Maryland player ever to lead the ACC in that category.

** Freshman guard Vicki Brick posted seven steals for the fourth time this season and match her season-high --- which is two shy of the Terps' single-game record of nine. Brick has 81 steals on the season which is 7th in Maryland history, and her 3.24 steals leads the ACC. Brick is bidding to become the first freshman to lead the ACC in steals in 20 seasons, dating to a 2.9 per game by Maryland's Debbie Lytle in 1980. The ACC class record for steals by a freshman is 3.4.

** Maryland is still vying for a winning record following its disastrous 6-21 campaign in 1999. The Terps are 13-12 overall and 4-10 in the ACC. Last season, the Terps were 3-13 in the ACC. Maryland hosts Virginia at Cole Field House on Thursday before traveling to Georgia Tech to end the regular season on Feb. 27.
