Football Assistant Headed To The NFL

March 10, 2000

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland football coach Ron Vanderlinden has announced today the resignation of receivers coach Craig Johnson. Johnson, a three-year member of the Terrapin coaching staff and former offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, has accepted a post as an offensive assistant coach with the Tennessee Titans of the National Football League.

Johnson, in moving on to the NFL, will join former Maryland players Neil O'Donnell and Frank Wycheck, who helped guide the Titans to Super Bowl XXXIV in January.

Said Vanderlinden, who coached with Johnson at Northwestern before the pair ventured to Maryland together in 1997, "I greatly appreciate the constant efforts that Craig Johnson made to the development and progress in the Maryland program. We wish him tremendous success with a new career in the NFL."

Maryland, meanwhile, continues its 2000 spring practice schedule. The Terrapins don pads for the first time this spring, in their third spring practice session on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The annual Red-White spring game is slated for Friday evening, April 14 at 7 p.m. at Byrd Stadium.
