COLLEGE PARK, MD. -
Jimmy Kittelberger went 3-for-4 and scored twice, leading Towson (6-9-1) to a 5-3 win over Maryland (8-19) in baseball action on Thursday at Shipley Field. The game snapped the Terps' two-game winning streak.
Craig Munroe got the Terps on the board with a single to left field in the first inning to put the Terps up 1-0. Maryland scored twice more in the third inning on back-to-back RBI singles by Brian Patenaude and Matt Swope.
Towson took advantage of a pair of Terp miscues to tie the game at 3-3 in the top of the fifth inning. Kittelberger reached first base on one of the errors and scored the eventual tying run.
Jason Sandner then put the Tigers in the lead in the top of the seventh inning when he scored on a sacrifice fly by Mike Dubansky. Kittelberger increased the lead to 5-3 in the same inning when he scored on a fielder's choice.
Towson held Maryland scoreless the final six innings. Casey Theberge (1-0) got the win and Matt Brady got his second save of the season. Joe Hart (1-5) took the loss.
Maryland got two hits apiece from Patenaude, Munroe, Jason Mohap and Sean Lomas.
The Terps have the weekend off and returns to action at James Madison next Tuesday at 3 p.m.
TERP NOTES: Patenaude extended his career-high hitting streak to 10 games.
