COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Junior transfer Shaun Hill (Parsons, Kan.) made an impressive debut for the University of Maryland football team, completing 13 of 16 attempts and a four-yard touchdown pass as the Red team won 24-14 in the annual Red-White scrimmage at Byrd Stadium before a crowd of 3,000.
Hill, who transferred from Hutchinson Community College (Kan.) to Maryland this semester, entered the three-quarterback rotation in the second series of the game and connected with freshman tight end Jeff Dugan (Allison Park, Pa.) in the second quarter on a four-yard score. He also threw a 47-yard pass to sophomore Scooter Monroe (Abington, Md.) that eventually set up a one-yard touchdown run by junior tailback Marc Riley (Coram, N.Y.). Riley's plunge put the Red team ahead for good, 17-14. Sophomore Calvin McCall (Miami, Fla.) finished seven for 12 on the evening for 129 passing yards. Sophomore Latrez Harrison (Atlanta, Ga.) finished 7 for 10 passing with 96 yards.
Riley led all rushers with 44 yards on 12 carries. Sophomore Bruce Perry (Philadelphia, Pa.) totaled 39 yards on 10 attempts. His fourth-quarter 18-yard scamper sealed the victory.
On defense, sophomore linebacker E. J. Henderson (Aberdeen, Md.) recorded 10 total tackles, including nine solo stops.
Senior placekicker Brian Kopka (Hollywood, Fla.) made his lone field goal attempt, a 26-yard kick, and hit all four of his extra point attempts.
