Malone, McGinnis Named To All-ACC Men's Lacrosse Team

April 20, 2000

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Maryland juniors midfielder Chris Malone (Timonium, Md.) and goalie Pat McGinnis (Ellicott City, Md.) have been named to the 2000 All-ACC Men's Lacrosse Team as selected by the conference coaches on Thursday. It marks the first time either player has made the All-ACC Team.

Malone has emerged as the Terps leading scoring heading into the ACC Tournament. The first-line midfielder leads Maryland in goals with 19 and points with 25. Both of those total are new single-season career highs through just 10 games. Malone has recorded a single-game career high four goals on two occasions at North Carolina and at Johns Hopkins this season. In both games, all four goals came in the first half. Malone also scored the game-winning goal to lift Maryland past Cornell.

McGinnis has been a national standout in the Terps' goal this season. He has ranked among the top 10 in goals against average and save percentage all season long. He currently ranks No. 6 in save percentage, stopping 64.3 percent of the shots he has faced and has allowed just 8.07 goals per game to rank No. 7. McGinnis set a career-high and NCAA Division I season high in saves when he made 27 stops against Virginia on March 31.

The Terps, who are the No. 3 seed in the 2000 ACC Tournament, will take on No. 2 seed Duke in the second of two ACC semifinals on Friday night at Byrd Stadium. No. 1 seed Virginia will battle No. 4 seed North Carolina in the first semifinal at 6 p.m.
