Maryland Women's Basketball Adds Allison Jones To Staff

June 22, 2000

College Park, Md. - The University of Maryland has announced the hiring of Allison Jones as the new women's basketball assistant coach, effective June 21. Jones comes to College Park after a seven-year stint with Hartford University. Most recently, Jones has also served as a draft consultant for the LA Sparks, evaluating and rating collegiate players for the WNBA draft.

At Hartford, Jones had the Hawks' highest win total in school history, and established new records for overall season wins and conference wins. A 1981 graduate of St. John's, Jones has also had stints as the head coach at Pace University and an assistant coach at Columbia University. Jones owns a 150-130 career record spanning a 10-year stretch from 1989-99.

"We're tremendously excited to have Allison on the staff because of her experience and tremendous organizational skills," commented head coach Chris Weller, entering her 26th year next season as the Terrapins' head coach. "She compliments our existing staff very well and our goal in the hiring process was to put together a nationally ranked staff. With the addition of Allison, I think we've got it."

Last year, Maryland compiled a 16-15 record and capped off the season with a run in the WNIT that took the Terps all the way to the quarterfinals. Weller begins the 2000-2001 season with a 463-236 career record.
