Journal Entry No. 2- Terrapins Look To Channel Adversity Into Opportunity

It is difficult to find many things positive after losing two games, one in overtime and the other in the last minute. However there are some good things to take away from the weekend. We played some good soccer and showed great heart and determination in both games. We also displayed great adversity by bouncing back from key injuries to play well. Without a doubt, Scotty Buete will be dearly missed as he was playing the best I have ever seen.
While we will be without Scotty for the rest of the season, a familar face has returned to the locker room-Jason Sardis. This summer, Jason made an extremely tough decision to take a break from soccer this season to concentrate on his academics. Being one of his roomates and close friends I know how difficult a decision this was. We all respected his decision and supported him 100%. Today, Jason officially returned to the team. He is rededicating his services to the team and I know he will be able to handle the tough rigors of school and soccer. Everyone on the team jokes about how it seems as if Jason never missed a step even though he has taken a long break from soccer. Jason adds three years of experience, veteran leadership, and another offensive weapon.
With Jason back in the lineup, we seem ready for a tough battle against UMBC. This is a very critical game since it is a regional game which factors into NCAA seeding. Personally, this game means a lot to me. I have played with or against almost every player on the UMBC team. Also, we play with many of their players during summer league. After last years great season, UMBC will be coming to College Park with confidence. We will have to continue to show great effort and dedication from everyone to put together a complete game. I know we will bounce back and play some of our best soccer.
