Sardis Rejoins Men's Soccer Team

College Park, Md. - Maryland head men's soccer coach Sasho Cirovski announced today that Jason Sardis (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) has been added to the men's soccer roster for the remainder of the 2000 season. Sardis, a three-year veteran of the team, returns to give the Terrapins increased depth at the midfield and forward positions after several injuries during the preseason and last week's Maryland/FILA Classic tournament.
"Jason always knew that the door would be open and I am ecstatic that he decided to return at this time," said Cirovski after the team's practice Tuesday.
Sardis was the Terrapins' fourth-leading scorer during the 1999 season with four goals and six assists. A junior, he made seven starts for Maryland and scored the game-winner against George Mason. He also netted two goals in the team's 4-1 win over American. For his career, he has 13 goals and 17 assists for 43 points.
"There were several factors that lead to my decision to return," commented Sardis after his first day of practice this season. "First, I came to the games and missed playing with the guys. Second, when I made my decision not to play, it was the best one for me then, but now I feel differently- I really miss it. Third, with all of the injuries that our team has right now, and all the close games they've been in, I think I could help out some."
Sardis' first practice was today, the eve of the Terps' match-up against regional-rival UMBC. No. 23 Maryland is looking for its third win of the year when they host the Retrievers at 7 p.m. at Ludwig Field.
