Christian Lewis Journal Entry #3
Finally a victory. I can't hide how hard the past week has been. We finally broke out of a serious slump this past weekend with a solid victory. Many people might consider our victory this weekend as ordinary considering NC State has not yet won a game. But there were many positives people do not always realize. First of all, we scored. As simple as it sounds, it has been a very difficult thing for us to do this season. Also, we played the second half as a unified team, moving the ball quickly and capitalizing on our opportunities. Perhaps the most important thing we got out of the weekend was the feeling of victory. I can tell you there is a huge difference between driving home 5 hours Sunday night with a smile on your face compared to coming home after a loss.
Next for us is Loyola. They are a good team that has done very well in our region. This game is crucial in regards to our NCAA chances. Our weekday games are not always looked upon in the same light as our weekend conference games. But these region games are extremely important not only for NCAA purposes, but also in our team's development. The more games we can play as a unit, the better we will be come November.
It is hard to believe that the season is already six games old. That is about 25% of the season. I can't really imagine how close I am to finishing my college soccer career. Over the past three years, my senior class has gone through a great deal together. We are faced with difficult times right now considering the injuries. But I know we will get through this. There will be nothing better than to leave Maryland and this great program with a championship. I came to Maryland after we had won the 1996 ACC Championship, and I knew the program was headed for great things. I want to make sure that I help to achieve the highest level of greatness.
