Although we did not play against Loyola, the team did some good things this week. We had an extra day of rest which always helps our ailing bodies. We also have a couple extra days of preparation for Duke this Sunday which is crucial when playing a tough ACC team. Whenever we play Duke it is always a true battle. Last year we went to their field after being ranked #1 and played awful. We must play some of our best soccer to win this weekend. I am really excited about the game as is the whole team. It is time for us to establish home field advantage and get a conference victory.
As I think back to our previous games in my career, I realize that I can't really remember what happened. This got me thinking that the things I do remember do not have much to do with actual soccer games. Instead they are the people I met, the friends I have made, and the experiences of college. Don't get me wrong, most of this revolves around soccer. But I don't really look back on games and think about how I played. I remember the feeling of winning in overtime and the bus ride home. Perhaps the things I look back on the most are the people I have encountered. This includes players, teamates, coaches, teachers, and faculty. I remember how my business professor comes to most of our games. And my human sexuality professor talking to me during class about this year's English National Team.
Then there are the experiences with my teammates. Our preseason trip to Holland, getting stuck in the hotel elevator at Disney World, two people forgetting their uniforms for an away game, pregame meals at Three Brothers, Kirk Miller singing "I Will Survive" on the team bus, Harford Hall dance parties, competitive games of two on two ping pong...The point is that while the games are important, the experiences are the things I will truly look back on and cherish.
