Terps Travel to Spry Stadium For Clash With Wake Forest

College Park, Md. - The Terrapins men's soccer conference match-up this week features Maryland (4-4, 1-1 ACC) travelling to Wake Forest (4-3-1, 0-1 ACC) on Sunday, Oct. 1, for a 1 p.m. tilt. Please note that the game was moved from Sept. 30, and will be played Sunday because of a conflict with a football game on the Wake Forest campus on Saturday.
Cirovski Celebrates 200 With 3-0 Victory
Entering his eighth year at Maryland, head coach Sasho Cirovski has compiled a 94-54-14 (.623) record. A 1985 graduate of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Cirovski owns a 120-66-14 (.635) through his first nine years of head coaching. Cirovski sits just six wins away from the 100-win plateau at Maryland. He has 14 or more wins in each of his last six seasons. The Terps' 3-0 win against American marked the 200th game Cirovski has coached in his career.
The Maryland/Wake Forest Series
Maryland is looking to keep a slight lead over Wake Forest in the all-time series when the Terps travel to Spry Stadium on Sunday. Currently, the Terrapins have a one-game advantage with the series standing at 10-9-3. Last year, Maryland dropped a heartbreaking 2-1 overtime loss to the Demon Deacons at Ludwig Field on a goal in the 100th minute by Jamal Seale. Sasho Cirovski is 5-2 against the Deacs, with two games going into overtime. Last year's was a 2-1 Terrapin loss, but the 1995 overtime match-up was a 4-3 golden-goal victory for Maryland.

Ben Stafford leads the Deacs' scoring charge with six goals and three assists, including the game-winning goals at Connecticut and UNC Greensboro. Senior keeper Rob Vartughian has a .776 save perentage and a 1.52 goals against average.
Bitten by the Injury Bug
Sophomore Scott Buete suffered a broken foot during the 36th minute of the Indiana game on Sept. 8. Buete will miss the rest of the Terrapins' season, but will apply for a medical redshirt. Buete had three points this season on a goal against South Florida and an assist against Jacksonville, both in the Virginia Classic where he earned all-tournament team honors. He underwent surgery on Sept. 13.
Sophomore A.J. Herrera has suffered an season-ending foot injury, and will most likely redshirt the 2000 year. Herrera will join classmate Scott Buete on the sidelines this season. Herrera will most likely redshirt along with Buete.
On Friday, both Siba Mohammed and Matt Roberts (Hillsborough, N.J.) underwent operations to correct lingering knee problems from earlier surgeries. They will both be sidelined for the season with Buete and Herrera.
All total, nine out of 21 Terps have sustained injuries which have caused them to miss either entire games, crucial minutes of play, or the remainder of the season depending on the severity of their injury.
Loyola Game Moved to Oct. 25
Maryland men's soccer game vs. Loyola that was originally scheduled for 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 20 has been postponed because of sloppy field conditions due to rain. The game has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. The regional contest, which was originally to be played at Goucher College in Towson, Md., but will now be held at Ludwig Field.

88.1 FM WMUC, the student radio station for the University of Maryland, is set to broadcast at least eight of Maryland's men's soccer games this fall, including the 2000 ACC tournament at Wake Forest. All of WMUC's broadcasts can be accessed over the Internet at www.wmuc.umd.edu.
