
Cote Wins All-Around In Season Opener

DENVER, Colo. - Junior Gillian Cote (Fredericksburg, Va) won the all-around with a score of 39.025 as the University of Maryland women's gymnastics team (1-2) scored 191.925 on way to a third place finish at the University of Denver Saturday night. Denver was the victor with a score of 194.175, followed by Washington in second place at 192.900 and California-Berkeley in fourth with 191.650.
In her all-around victory, Cote placed third on the uneven bars with a score of 9.825. Also placing for Maryland were junior Kit Johnson (Virginia Beach, Va.) in third place with a 9.775 on vault and senior Jill Fisher (Huntington, N.Y.) who tied for second place on floor with a score of 9.875. Freshman Sarah Hoenig (Seaford, N.Y.) was Maryland's top performer on beam, scoring a 9.800 in her first collegiate meet.
Denver had a record-setting night, breaking the school record for team score in a season opener with a 194.175. Denver senior Jenny Ebdon won both the floor exercise and the balance beam with scores of 9.925 to lead her team to victory.
The Terrapins' next meet will be at Rhode Island on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. ET.
