
Maryland Gymnastics Falls To Rhode Island

Junior Lisa Mealey (Bensalem, Pa.) won the all-around with a 38.100 as the University of Maryland women's gymnastics team (1-3) fell to the University of Rhode Island 191.525-188.875 Saturday night. Although Maryland had gymnasts place first in every event, Rhode Island gymnasts turned in strong performances which rounded out the placing to take the win.
In addition to placing first in the all-around, Mealey placed first on floor with a 9.825 and fifth on vault with a 9.575. Junior Gillian Cote (Fredericksburg, Md.) also had a solid night, placing first on vault with a 9.700, first on the uneven bars with a 9.750 and second in the all-around with a 37.225.
Freshmen Sarah Hoenig (Seaford, N.Y.) and Katherine Schroeder (Carrollton, Texas) both competed well in their second meets as Terrapins. Hoenig placed first on beam with a 9.8 and Schroeder placed second on floor with a 9.750. Also placing for Maryland was sophomore Catherine Gardner (Chelmsford, Mass.), taking third place in the all-around with a 34.950.
Maryland will have its home opener on Friday, Jan. 26 against Radford University. The meet will be held at Ritchie Coliseum in College Park, Md. and will begin at 7 p.m. E.T.
