COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Former University of Maryland tailback LaMont Jordan shined in today's Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., as he was named Offensive MVP of the North team. Meanwhile, backfield mate Matt Kalapinski was showing that he coud run as well leading his team in rushing time zones away in Hawaii's Hula Bowl.
Jordan, the Terrapins' all-time leading rusher, ran for 62 yards on nine carries (an average of 6.9 yards per carry)and scored the first touchdown of the day for the North squad on a seven-yard scamper in the third quarter. In addition, Jordan caught three passes for 29 yards in the game.
The North team, however, fell to the South by the score of 21-16. TCU's LaDainian Tomlinson was named the game's overall MVP as he ran for 88 yards on 19 carries and scored one touchdown.
Kalapinski, who led the way for Jordan as a fullback for four years at Maryland, had a strong game later in the day in the Hula Bowl. Not accustomed to getting too many carries, the Massachussetts native made the most of his opportunity rushing for a game-high 51 yards on nine carries. In addition, he caught a 25-yard touchdown pass as his Aina (South) squad lost, 31-23, to the North.
