* The Maryland men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the Paul Short Invitational Saturday, Oct. 6. The meet will include both collegiate and high school races and be held at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.
* The collegiate men will be running an 8,000 meter course beginning at 8:30 a.m, while the women will run a 6,000 meter course at 9:30 a.m. Collegiate teams will be awarded beginning at 12:45 p.m.
* There are 28 teams registered to compete in the Division I men's race and 27 registered for the women's race, including Navy, Georgetown and Penn State.
Terps Improve At ACC Preview
* The Maryland women's cross country team placed second with a team score of 63 and the men's team placed third with a score of 80 at Clemson Saturday, Sept. 29. Both teams showed improvement since their opening meet at Navy Sept. 8, where both teams finished fifth.
* Junior Kristin Lubas (York, Pa.) led the women's team in the 5,000 meter race with a time of 19:48, finishing in eighth place. Seniors Monique Berry (Andover, Conn.), Marjorie Bollinger (Timonium, Md.), and junior Kim Smith (Glastonbury, Conn.) were close behind Lubas, finishing in 11th, 12th and 13th place with times of 19:56, 20:06 and 20:09, respectively.
* For the men, junior Mike Prada (Fulton, Md.) continued to be the top runner for the Terps, finishing in ninth place with a time of 26:14 in the 8,000 meter race. Saturday marked Prada's second consecutive race as Maryland's top runner. Sophomore Francis Ciganek (Chestertown, Md.) finished in 26:44 to place 15th.
Increasing The Speed
* Both the men's and women's teams had runners best their 2000 Navy Invitational times this year. For the men, junior Mike Prada improved his 2000 time of 26:02.00 by 9.7 seconds and sophomore Francis Ciganek lowered his time from 27:03.00 to 26:37.70. Junior Kristin Lubas and seniors Monique Berry and Marjorie Bollinger all improved their Navy Invitational time by at least one minute.
* Every runners on the women's team improved upon their times from the Navy Invitational Sept. 8 while competing in the ACC Preview Sept. 29. Berry improved her 5K time from 20:32.06 to 19:56 (36 seconds), Bollinger went from 20:50.82 to 20:06 (44 seconds) and freshman Bridget Baker (Elkridge, Md.) improved from 21:45.49 to 20:35 (70 seconds).
