Cross Country Comes Home For Maryland Invite

* The Maryland men's and women's cross country team will compete in their only home meet of the season Saturday, Oct. 13. Participating schools include George Washingotn University, George Mason University, American University, Johns Hopkins University, Towson University and Hampton University.

* The women's teams will be running a 5,000 meter course beginning at 9:00 a.m., while the men's teams will run an 8,000 meter course at 9:45 a.m.

* Saturday's meet will take place at the University of Maryland Golf Course, located off of University Blvd. across Stadium Drive.

* All the 2000 Maryland Invitational, the Maryland women placed.

Men Place 19th at Paul Short Invite

* The Maryland men's cross country team placed 19th out of 31 teams at the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University Saturday with a team score of 505. Penn State won the 8,000 -meter race with a score of 66, followed by second place Bucknell (135) and third place West Virginia (138).

* Junior Mike Prada (Fulton, Md.) finished his third meet this season as the Terrapins' top runner in 46th place with a time of 25:47.53. Sophomore Francis Ciganek (Chestertown, Md.) completed the race in 25:57.12.

* In the women's 6,000-meter race, junior Kristin Lubas (York, Pa.) led the Maryland women's team to a 23rd place finish out of 39 teams. Lubas finished the course in 23:08.08. Penn State also took first place in the women's race with a final score of 109. Bucknell placed second with a score of 123, followed by third-place Moravian with a 135 total.

Terps Improve At ACC Preview

* The Maryland women's cross country team placed second with a team score of 63 and the men's team placed third with a score of 80 at Clemson Saturday. Both teams showed improvement since their last meet three weeks ago at Navy, where both teams finished fifth.

* Life University placed first in the men's race with a score of 38, followed by host Clemson with a second-place score of 42. In the women's race, Maryland tailed first place South Carolina, who placed first with a score of 36. The Clemson women rounded out the top three places with a score of 75.

* Junior Kristin Lubas led the women's team in the 5,000 meter race with a time of 19:48, finishing in eighth place. Seniors Monique Berry and Marjorie Bollinger (Timonium, Md.), and junior Kim Smith (Glastonbury, Conn.) were close behind Lubas, finishing in 11th, 12th and 13th place with times of 19:56, 20:06 and 20:09, respectively.

* For the men, junior Mike Prada continues to be the top runner for the Terps, finishing in ninth place with a time of 26:14 in the 8,000 meter race. Saturday marks Prada's second consecutive race as Maryland's top runner. Sophomore Francis Ciganek finished in 26:44 to place 15th.
