COLLEGE PARK, MD.- - The University of Maryland men's soccer team (4-5-1) meets regional foe Virginia Commonwealth Sunday, Oct. 14 at Ludwig Field. The Terps won last year's match-up 1-0 in Richmond and are looking to avenge a 1999 2-1 home loss to Virginia Commonwealth. Maryland and VCU are both South Atlantic Region teams, making this an important meeting for the Terps.
The Virginia Commonwealth Series
Just three games olds, the series with Virginia Commonwealth has been an exciting one with all three meetings being decided by one goal or less each time. Last year, Maryland downed VCU in Richmond 1-0 off an Abe Thompson (Fairfax Station, Va.) free kick. In 1999, Virginia Commonwealth upset Maryland 2-1 at Ludwig Field. In the first-ever meeting between the two teams, Maryland notched the 2-1 win over the Rams in College Park on Oct. 6, 1982.

Happy Birthday To You
Last year, the Terps gave head coach Sasho Cirovski quite a birthday gift, beating the Rams 1-0 on the road on his birthday. Ironically, Maryland and Virginia Commonwealth meet again on Cirovski's birthday this Sunday, Oct. 14. So the question is... will the Terps give Cirovski the same birthday gift again this year?
Next up: The Gamecock Soccer Classic
The Terrapins travel to Columbia, S.C., next weekend, Oct. 19 and 21 for the Gamecock Soccer Classic in their next action. Maryland will meet host South Carolina on Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m. The Terps final game of the Classic will be on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 11 a.m. when they will meet the College of Charleston.
The Terps Return to ACC Action
Maryland resumes ACC play on Oct. 28 at Clemson after a two-week lay-off. Maryland is still looking for its first conference victory after logging a loss at Duke (1-0), a tie against Wake Forest (2-2) and a loss at North Carolina (2-1).
Schedule Changes
Maryland has three schedule changes remaining due to conflicts and postponements, two of which are conference match-ups. All are home contests to be held at Ludwig Field. Changes start with the Holy Cross game, previously the Terps' final regular season home contest scheduled for Nov. 9, which has been moved to Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. The Nov. 2 game against conference-rival Virginia has now been moved to Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. The final rescheduled game is the NC State game that was to be played on Sept. 16. That game will now be played at 1 p.m. on Nov. 11 and will be the Terps' final home game of the regular season.
Rohrman Honored by CSN
* College Soccer News recently named Maryland coach Jeff Rohrman one of the nation's top assistants in the country. An excellent teacher with a vast knowledge of the game, CSN said that Rohrman is "a talented coach and a very natural fit with Maryland program head coach Sasho Cirovski. They both share a genuine passion for the game that is reflected in the type of teams Maryland puts on the field." Rohrman has been with the Terps since 1994. A 1986 graduate of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, he and Cirovski played together for the Panthers for two years.
