The USC Series- Brother vs. Brother
For a series that's just one game old, the South Carolina game from last year has possessed some of the most intense dramatical elements of any the Terps have had. On Oct. 10, 2000, in the Maryland/FILA Classic, South Carolina's Anthony Vitagliano won the battle of the brothers when his header in the 89th minute elevated the No. 22 Gamecocks over the No. 8 Maryland Terrapins and brother Bryan Vitagliano (Scottsdale, Ariz.). Bryan, the younger of the two Vitagliano brothers, earned all-tournament recognition for his performance for Maryland along with junior Nick Downing (1998-2000). This year- the younger Vitagliano looks to even the series on his brother's turf.
The Terps Return to ACC Action
Maryland resumes ACC play on Oct. 28 at Clemson after a two-week lay-off. Maryland is still looking for its first conference victory after logging a loss at Duke (1-0), a tie against Wake Forest (2-2) and a loss at North Carolina (2-1).
Schedule Changes
Maryland has three schedule changes remaining due to conflicts and postponements, two of which are conference match-ups. All are home contests to be held at Ludwig Field. Changes start with the Holy Cross game, previously the Terps' final regular season home contest scheduled for Nov. 9, which has been moved to Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. The Nov. 2 game against conference-rival Virginia has now been moved to Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. The final rescheduled game is the NC State game that was to be played on Sept. 16. That game will now be played at 1 p.m. on Nov. 11 and will be the Terps' final home game of the regular season. Additionally, Maryland's opponent on Nov. 9 has changed from Fairfield to Manhattan. Game time will still be at 7 p.m.
Sumed Making his Mark
Maryland redshirt-sophomore Sumed Ibrahim (Tamale, Ghana) is on the doorstep of adding his name to the Terps' all-time single-season assists chart. Sumed has seven assists this season, and needs one more to tie four Terps who are in the No. 8 spot with eight.
