
Barnard Named Finalist for Ray Guy Award

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland junior Brooks Barnard has been named one of 10 semifinalists for this year's Ray Guy Award which recognizes the nation's top collegiate punter. The list was announced yesterday by the Greater Augusta Sports Council.
Barnard was chosen from a list of 31 punters put on the award's original watch list. Each of the 31 punters was evaluated on several criteria including net average, punts inside the 20, punts inside the 10, percentage of punts inside the 20, average return yardage and percent not returned.
Barnard set a school record with a 44.7-yard average a year ago and currently leads the Atlantic Coast Conference with a 44.5 yard average.
The winner of the award will be named on the ESPN College Football Awards Show, which will air Thursday, December 6, 2001. The winner will later be honored at the Greater Augusta Sports Awards Gala.
