Terps Look For Pair Of Wins Against Regional Foes This Week

The University of Maryland men's soccer team (4-4-1) hosts two regional opponents this week in George Mason and Virginia Commonwealth. The Patriots are first on the list on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Ludwig Field. The VCU Rams head to College Park for a Sunday match at 2 p.m.
The Terrapins find themselves in a must-win situation in the South Atlantic Region. Last week, Maryland was fifth in the region behind Virginia, Loyola, William & Mary and UMBC. New regional rankings come out Monday, Oct. 8, but the Terps' place in the region would undoubtedly be improved by two South Atlantic wins this week.

Maryland, now 0-2-1 in ACC competition, takes a break from conference action for over two weeks. The Terps resume ACC play until Oct. 28 when they travel to Clemson.
The Terps/George Mason Series
Maryland has won the past four meetings between George Mason and the Terps, all by two or more goals. The Terps are 4-4-1 all-time against the Patriots. Current head coach Sasho Cirovski is 4-1 versus George Mason while coaching the Terps.
Current Terps Against the Patriots
Three current Terrapins have scored points against the Patriots during their careers: Abe Thompson (Fairfax Station, Va.), Beckett Hollenbach (Havertown, Pa.), and Seth Stammler (Gahanna, Ohio). Hollenbach scored a goal and added an assist in Maryland's 3-0 win over George Mason in 1998, his freshman year. In last season's 4-0 shutout, Thompson scored twice with Stammler tallying one goal.
