
Two Men's Soccer Terps Earn All-ACC Honors

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Two Terrapins received All-ACC honors at the annual banquet held Wednesday evening in conjunction with the ACC men's soccer tournament. Redshirt-sophomore Sumed Ibrahim (Tamale, Ghana) was voted to the first team, while sophomore Philip Salyer (Dallas, Texas) earned second team honors. The All-ACC team is voted on by all seven conference coaches, the honor was the first of its kind for both Terps.
The Terps' leading scorer this season with eight goals and 13 assists, Sumed has etched his name in Maryland school history at the No. 2 spot for assists in a single-season and No. 10 for points in a season. Possessing explosive speed, Sumed has racked-up two hat tricks this year as well as a nine-point outing against Manhattan. He also picked up national honors as the part of the Soccer America Team of the Week for the week of Sept. 10.
A key part of Maryland's stingy defense, Salyer can also explode offensively for the Terrapins when needed. Salyer's golden goal header in the 120th minute to upset then- No. 7 UCLA in the Virginia Soccer Classic earned him most valuable player for the tournament. In addition to his defensive contributions, he has two goals and four assists. A member of the U.S Under-20 team, Salyer earned Soccer America Team of the Week status for his golden goal header.
No. 6 seed Maryland meets No. 3 seed Clemson on Thursday at 8 p.m. This year's tournament is being held at Clemson and marks the third time that Maryland has met the host school in the ACC Tournament.
