Current Terps Vs. Clemson
Three current Terrapins have scored points against Clemson in their careers. Siba Mohammed (Tamale, Ghana) had two assists in Maryland's 1999 2-1 win at Clemson. Abe Thompson (Fairfax Station, Va.), who is redshirting this season, scored a goal with Beckett Hollenbach (Havertown, Pa.) adding an assist in the Terps' 3-2 loss at Ludwig Field last season.
Sumed Making his Mark
Maryland redshirt-sophomore Sumed Ibrahim (Tamale, Ghana) has added his name to the Terps' all-time single-season assists chart. Sumed has 13 assists this season, and needs one more to tie two Terps who are in the top spot with 14.
Maryland's Single Season Assists Chart 1. 14 Gino Ferrin (1985) 14 Keith Beach (1998) 3. 8 Sumed Ibrahim (2001) 13 Eberhard Klein (1964) 5. 12 Carlos Martin (1961) 6. 11 Keith Beach (1996) 7. 10 Rocco Morelli (1969) 10 Randy Merkel (1997) 9. 9 John Garvey (1990) 9 Taylor Twellman (1999)
Sumed On The Charts Again
Redshirt-sophomore Sumed Ibrahim has been hot all season for the Terps, scoring goals and setting them up with great frequency. The Ghana-native is averaging 1.72 ppg and leads the team in goals (9) and assists (13). His 31 points have moved him onto the single-season points chart at the No. 10 spot, tying him with Abe Thompson and Gary Furlong (1986). His point-total makes 2001 the fourth consecutive season that a Terrapin has tallied 31 or more points. In 1998, it was Taylor Twellman (1998-99) with 40, and then Twellman again in 1999 with 33. 2000 saw Thompson accumulate 31 and now Sumed, also with 31.
The leading scorer in the South Atlantic Region, Sumed has scored over five-times as much as his freshman year totals when a nagging groin injury held the midfielder back. That year, he scored one goal and had two assists in 20 games.
