
E.J. Henderson One Of 3 Finalists For Butkus Award

University of Maryland's E.J. Henderson Thursday was named one of three finalists for the Butkus Award, given annually by the Downtown Athletic Club of Orlando to the best linebacker in college football.
The other finalists are senior Rocky Calmus of Oklahoma and senior Robert Thomas of UCLA.
The finalists were voted upon by the independent Butkus Award selection committee which is comprised of the nation's foremost media members. The 2001 Butkus Award winner will be chosen by a confidential ballot of the Butkus Award selection committee and announced by the award's namesake Dick Butkus at a presentation ceremony on Friday, Dec. 7.
Henderson has helped key Maryland's dramatic rise to national prominence, totaling 130 tackles (90 solos) and a school-record 25 tackles for loss. He is a five-time ACC Defensive Player of the Week. Calmus has totaled 106 tackles and 12 TFL's, while Thomas has totaled 99 tackles and 22 TFL's.
