INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Maryland men's soccer team will host the first and second rounds of the 2001 Men's College Cup at Ludwig Field this weekend. The Terps (10-8-1) will host Notre Dame (12-7) this Friday night at Ludwig Field at 7 p.m.
The winner of the Friday night game will face Loyola (Md.), which won the MAAC and finished with a 16-1-2 record. The second round game pitting the Maryland/Notre Dame winner will face Loyola on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Loyola is the highest seeded team in the bracket but was unable to host the games in Baltimore, thus Maryland was named the host by the NCAA.
"We are glad to be back in the tournament," said Maryland coach Sasho Cirovski. "We've got to take advantage of being the only team to host a first round game.
"We should have a great game with Notre Dame in the first round. Their coach Bobby Clark will have them well prepared and very organized. But, we are ready for the challenge."
Maryland returns to the tournament after missing the event for the first time since 1994, last season. Overall, Cirovski has now led Maryland into seven NCAA events, all in the last eight years. Overall, this is his ninth bid with two coming at Hartford.
The Terps, who were co-NCAA champs in 1968 and reached the national semifinals in 1998, are making their 21st all-time NCAA appearance.
