
2 Terps Named Finalists For National Awards By Football News

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Junior linebacker E.J. Henderson and head coach Ralph Friedgen are finalists for major national awards from Football News, the publication's editorial staff announced Tuesday.
Henderson, from Aberdeen, Md., is one of five finalists for Defensive Player of the Year. Friedgen, a '69 graduate of Maryland who is in his first year as a major college head coach, is one of three finalists for Coach of the Year.
Announcement of the winners for those two awards, plus Offensive Player of the Year, will be made on Wednesday, Dec. 12. The finalists were selected by the publication's editorial staff.
Henderson, one of three finalists for the Butkus Award, set a school record with 28 TFL's this season. Friedgen led Maryland to its fifth 10-win season in school history and its major bowl game since 1976.
