7 Terp Gridders Named 1st Team All-ACC

University of Maryland tied a school record for first-team All-ACC selections in football on Tuesday, as seven members of the Terrapins' conference championnship football team were named to the elite squad by a vote of media members who cover the ACC.
The seven selections equaled the number of selections by the 1976 team, which also won an ACC title.
The Terps also had three second-team selections and three honorable mention choices.
Leading the way for the seventh-ranked Terps, who will take a 10-1 overall record into the Bowl Championship Series in early January, is junior linebacker E.J. Henderson, who led the league in TFL's (28) and total tackles (150). Other Terps named to the first-team defensive unit were strong safety Tony Jackson and cornerback Tony Okanlawon.
Terrapins selected on offense were tailback Bruce Perry, the league's leading rusher (1,242 yards), and offensive linemen Melvin Fowler and Todd Wike, who were key cogs in the up-front blocking for the highest-scoring team in school history.
Brooks Barnard, who led the league in punting average with a 44.5-yard average, was voted the league's top punter.
Second-team selections from Maryland included QB Shaun Hill, wide receiver Guilian Gary, and offensive tackle Matt Crawford. Honorable mention selections included free safety Randall Jones, defensive tackle Charles Hill, and kicker Nick Novak.
