COLLEGE PARK, Md. - No. 14 Maryland routed Troy State 47-14 on Saturday, and building a 44-0 lead. The Terps, 8-1 overall and 5-1 in the ACC, host Clemson next week in a game with conference and bowl implications. Following are game notes from the Maryland win over the Trojans.

* With today's 47-14 win over Troy State, Maryland (#15 AP, #16 ESPN/USA Today) moves to 8-1. The Terps won their eighth game for the first time since 1985 when Maryland finished 9-3, won the ACC and beat Syracuse in the Cherry Bowl.

* With 47 points today, Maryland has now scored 330 on the season. The regular season school record is 353 set in 1951 and 1982, and it is the most since the Terps scored 352 in 1984).

* Maryland is 6-0 this season at Byrd Stadium marking the second time in school history that it has won six games at home (1976, 6-0).

* Marc Riley's 69-yard touchdown run in the first quarter gave the Terrapins a 7-0 lead and was the longest run of his career. Riley's previous long was a 26-yard run earlier this season against Virginia (his longest rush coming into 2001 was seven yards).

* Riley rushed for a career-high 86 yards on seven carries. His previous high was 51 yards earlier this year against Virginia.

* Eleven different ball carriers helped the Terrapins amass 277 rushing yards against Troy State. Maryland averaged 5.0 yards per carry.

* E.J. Henderson's block of a TSU punt early in the second quarter was his first of the season and Maryland's third as a team in 2001. Henderson also blocked a field goal earlier this year.

* With two tackles for loss today, E.J. Henderson now has 21 on the season, second-most in school history. With three more, he will tie the all-time single season mark set by Randy White in 1974 (24).

* Bruce Perry's 17-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter was the first receiving touchdown of his career.

* The Terrapins' 34-0 halftime advantage today was their largest of the season. The previous best for Maryland was a 42-10 lead (32 points) versus Duke two weeks ago.

* The 34-point Maryland advantage was also the largest deficit that a Trojan team has faced since Larry Blakeney took the helm as head coach over 10 years ago.

* Maryland's shutout of Troy State in the first half marked the third time this season it had held an opponent scoreless in the first half (Eastern Michigan and Georgia Tech the others).

* Maryland kicker Nick Novak has connected on eight of his last nine field goals attempts including two of 50 yards or longer and four from at least 40 yards. His lone miss was a 50-yarder against Duke that hit the right upright.

* Shaun Hill finished the day midway through the third quarter with a mild left ankle sprain. Hill continued his strong play the last several weeks as he completed 15-of-22 passes for 228 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Most importantly, in his two-plus quarters of work the Terrapins did not commit a turnover.
