
Terrapin Women Picked No. 4 In Preseason ACC Poll

GREENSBORO, N.C. - - Maryland's women's basketball team has been tabbed No. 4 in the preseason ACC poll released after the Atlantic Coast Conference held its 11th annual media day Sunday, Nov. 4, in Greensboro, N.C. The Duke Blue Devils received 36 of 42 first place votes and 372 total votes to finish first in the poll.
The Blue Devils were followed in the balloting by North Carolina, which received a total of 297 points and NC State, who finished third with six first place votes for 273 points. The Terrapins finished fourth in the voting with 246 points, and Clemson was fifth with 213 points.
Florida State was sixth with a 198 point total, and Georgia Tech was seventh with 120 points. Virginia and Wake Forest finished eighth and ninth, with 117 and 54 points respectively.
The Terps return all five starters from a team that went 17-12 last year and received a bid to the NCAA tournament. Maryland, Street & Smith's preseason No. 18 team in the nation, holds its only exhibition game this Friday, Nov. 9 at Cole Field House. Maryland alum Katrina Colleton (1990-93), now a member of the WNBA's Miami Sol, will be part of the Houston squad the Terps will match up against. Game time is 7:30 p.m. The Terps' regular season begins a week later on Friday, Nov. 16 against Coppin State. That game will also be held at Cole Field House and will begin at 7:30 p.m.
