COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Because of the expected sellout crowd for this Saturday's home football game vs. Clemson, University of Maryland athletic department officials are encouraging fans to arrive early, use alternate routes, and be fully aware of parking options on campus.
A crowd of more than 50,000 is expected for the game, which kicks off at 7 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN2.
PARKING OPTIONS
-- All campus parking lots will open at 1:30 p.m., 5 ˝ hours prior to game time. This is 90 minutes earlier than normal.
-- Parking in Arena Garage, which is located adjacent to the new Comcast Center, is available free of charge. Fans who wish to park in the Arena Garage MUST access the parking structure via University Boulevard (eastbound only). Free T-shirts will be given to the first 500 people entering the Arena Garage. Arena Garage has 800 available spaces and is a prime parking alternative within easy walking distance of Byrd Stadium.
-- Lot 1 permit holders will not be able to "save" parking spaces for friends. Permit holders wishing to park together must pull into campus at the same time. There is a limit of one parking space per permit.
ALTERNATE ROUTES
Fans should consider alternate routes to access campus, including:
-- Exiting from the Beltway onto New Hampshire Avenue (Exit 28B) for southbound fans.
-- Exiting on Kenilworth Avenue (Exit 23) for northbound fans.
-- Avoid Route 1 exit because of heavy traffic.
-- Exiting campus may take longer than usual, please be patient.
We will see you at Byrd Stadium this Saturday and appreciate your cooperation and patience. Please plan to arrive early to avoid traffic delays.
