
Friedgen Named Coach Of Year By Football News

Maryland head coach Ralph Friedgen, who guided the Terrapins to a 10-1 mark and the Atlantic Coast Conference title, has been selected the Football News 2001 Coach of the Year.
Friedgen was selected over fellow Football News finalists Larry Coker of Miami (Fla.) and Brigham Young's Gary Crowton.
Friedgen earlier was named national Coach of the Year by Home Depot (on the ESPN College Football Awards Show), by CNN/SI and ABC Sports Online.
The sixth-ranked Terps will face Florida in the Jan. 2 Orange Bowl.
