ATLANTA, Ga. -
Student Advantage's FANSonly Network, the Internet's largest college sports network, achieved nearly 90 percent growth in year-over-year online merchandise sales for the month of November, recording more than 21,000 orders, and selling more than 38,000 items through its 72 official team stores.
Plenty of thanks can go to shoppers at Maryland's online store on www.umterps.com, which led all network schools in sales for the month of November.
"We have created an additional meaningful revenue stream for our university partners through effective online marketing programs for hot items that fans and alums 'must have,'" said Jeff Cravens, vice president and general manager of the FANSonly Network. "Conference champions Miami, Maryland, Illinois, Oregon and Colorado, are generating tremendous interest. Along with that, when schools like Tennessee or Georgia have a big win, they are now able to capitalize on it while giving their fan base a great, timely product offering such as a commemorative T-shirt."
Maryland had the most active store, as thousands of fans ordered ACC championship gear after the Terps claimed their first conference football title since 1985. Meanwhile, the excitement of Bobby Knight's coaching debut helped Texas Tech finish 10th in the network- weeks before the start of basketball season.
"With the record volumes we are seeing, our fans are telling us that we are the No. 1 online retailer for collegiate licensed merchandise," Cravens said. "The holiday shopping season is underway, and with bowl merchandise rolling out by December 9, we will be working extremely hard with our vendors to keep up with the demand of college sports fans nationally."
"Before the Internet, marketing specialty items to out-of-market fans was extremely difficult and costly," Cravens said. "We now have about 8,000 different products available, and consumers now expect to be able to purchase licensed products from their Official Athletic Site. Our depth of product now matches the depth of content available on each site."
