4 Terp Football Players Earn All-ACC Academic Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Four members of the University of Maryland football team - wide receiver Guilian Gary, defensive tackle Charles Hill, and defensive backs Tony Jackson and Tony Okanlawon - have been named to the 2000 Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic football team, ACC commissioner John Swofford announced Tuesday.
To be eligible, a player must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the fall semester or have maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
Maryland, along with Clemson and Florida State, led the way with four selections each.
Gary, the Terps' leading receiver with 40 receptions last season, carries a 3.00 GPA in family studies. Hill, who recorded a career-high 43 tackles and three sacks last year, has a 3.80 GPA in economics. Jackson, who started all 11 games at strong safety in 2000, is a criminal justice major with a 3.25 GPA. Okanlawon, who started at cornerback this past season, has a 3.00 GPA in family studies.
