
Maryland Gymnastics Defeats Rutgers

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Junior co-captain Gillian Cote (Fredericksburg, Va.) won the all-around with a team season-high 39.475 and broke the school vault record with a 9.900 as the University of Maryland women's gymnastics team defeated Rutgers 196.200-191.600.
Leading the Terrapins to victory were co-captains Cote and senior Jill Fisher (Huntington, N.Y.). In addition to placing first on vault, Cote tied with junior Kit Johnson (Virginia Beach, Va.) for first place on beam with a 9.850 and placed second on floor with a 9.900. Fisher placed first on floor with a 9.950 and second on vault with a 9.850, tying her personal career-high on vault.
Also scoring well for Maryland was junior Lisa Mealey (Bensalem, Pa.), who took first place on the uneven bars with a 9.900 and second in the all-around with a 39.200. Freshmen Rachel Sibert (Austin, Texas) and Sarah Hoenig (Seaford, N.Y.) continued their solid rookie seasons with Sibert placing third on vault with a 9.800 and Hoenig taking third on beam with a 9.825.
The Terps improve their regular season record to 6-7 and their conference record to 2-2. As the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) championship approaches, Maryland will travel to Towson, Md. on Monday, Feb. 19 to take on the Towson Tigers in the final conference meet of the regular season. The meet will be held at Towson Center beginning at 7 p.m.
