
Terrapin Gymnasts Finish First At Towson

TOWSON, Md. - Junior co-captain Gillian Cote (Fredericksburg, Va.) placed second in the all-around with a 39.250 as the University of Maryland women's gymnastics team topped Towson, Rhode Island and Temple at Towson Friday night. Maryland's final team score was 195.550, followed by Towson in second with a 194.950, Rhode Island in third with a 191.075 and Temple in fourth with a 185.400. The victory brings the Terps record to 9-7.
Maryland had its best road meet of the season with gymnasts placing first in every individual event. Senior co-captain Jill Fisher (Huntington, N.Y.) won vault with a 9.85 and the floor exercise with a 9.925. Junior Lisa Mealey (Bensalem, Pa.) took the uneven bars with a 9.875, and freshman Sarah Hoenig (Seaford, N.Y.) claimed the beam title with a career-high 9.900. Cote finished second on bars and beam with a 9.850 in both events.
The Terrapins will conclude the regular season on Monday, March 19 against the Colonials of George Washington. The meet will be held at Ritchie Coliseum in College Park, Md. beginning at 7 p.m.
