
Fisher Earns Perfect 10 In Final Home Meet

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior co-captain Jill Fisher (Huntington, N.Y.) won the floor exercise by earning the first-ever 10.000 in Ritchie Coliseum as the University of Maryland women's gymnastics team narrowly defeated George Washington 196.500-196.000. The Terrapin team score is the second-highest in school history.
Junior co captain Gillian Cote (Fredericksburg, Va.) had an outstanding evening as well, winning the all-around with a team season-high 39.525. Cote's all-around score is the second-highest in the Maryland record books, falling just behind the 39.625 she earned on March 10, 2000 against Temple. On bars, Cote tied with junior Lisa Mealey (Bensalem, Pa.) and George Washington's Devin McCalla for first place with a 9.900. Cote also placed second on floor with a 9.900.
Other notable Terrapins were junior Kit Johnson (Virginia Beach, Va.) who placed second on vault with a 9.800 and sophomore Catherine Gardner (Chelmsford, Mass.) who tied with Fisher and Cote for third place on beam with a 9.850. Junior Alyssa Mealey (Bensalem, Pa.) placed fifth on the uneven bars with a 9.850 and freshman Katherine Schroeder (Carrollton, Texas) earned a career-high 9.825 to place fifth on floor.
Maryland ends the regular season with a record of 10-7, 2-2 in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL). The EAGL Championships will be Saturday, March 24, at the University of North Carolina's Carmichael Auditorium, beginning at 6 p.m.
