COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The women's tennis team (5-8, 0-3 ACC) continued conference play on Wednesday in Charlottesville, Va., beginning a four-match road trip that will also take them to North Carolina, Duke and to Charlotte, N.C. to face Florida State. The Terps fell 6-1 to the Virginia Cavaliers at the Snyder Tennis Center. Sophomore Delila Causevic (Silver Spring, Md.), who leads the team in singles victories with nine, captured the only Maryland singles win of the day at No. 1. She downed Amy O'Donnell 6-4, 6-2.
The Cavaliers captured two doubles wins to earn the team point. Senior Catherine Valantin (Metz, France) teamed up with freshman Emily Marker (Ann Arbor, Mich.) at the No. 2 doubles to defeat O'Donnell and Christine Kim in a tie-breaker 9-8 (9-7). This is only the second time the two have competed as a doubles pair this spring. They earned another dual victory on March 3 against Virginia Commonwealth.
Maryland is back in action this weekend with dual matches at Duke on April 7 and North Carolina on April 8. Both matches are slated to begin at noon. It will be a tough weekend for the Terps as they face two top-twenty opponents. North Carolina is currently No. 14 nationally and Duke holds at No. 2.
