Maryland vs. Georgetown
NCAA Championship Final

Coach Cindy Timchal
(Opening Statement)
"It is just an incredible journey that we have had this year. For our team to have the courage when things got real tight in today's game and to come out on top in the end is a true testament to what Maryland lacrosse is all about.

"We wanted this season to be better than last season and I think we were able to do that today. It was a great championship game to be involved in because of the courage and the heart of this team after getting a big lead, then having to come back and really hang in there with the conditions being so (poor). So, way to go Terps...great job."

(on subbing for Venechanos towards the end of the first half)
"I just wanted to mix it up a little bit. Virginia (Solomon) has been doing well for us coming off of the bench and I just wanted to talk to Alexis on the sideline a little bit. I just wanted to see how she was feeling. I think Georgetown did that with their goalie, too, but it really paid off for us in the second half."

(on the play of NCAA Championship MVP Courtney Martinez)
"Courtney is just an awesome athlete. She has done great for us this year...stellar. She is really, in my mind, the top defender in the country. She played Sheehan (Stanwick) tough and she is just a great athlete. I am happy for her -- she has played great defense and really helped generate our offense when she is in the midfield."

Jen Adams, Midfield
(on this year's Georgetown game compared to last year's quarterfinal game with the Hoyas)
"I don't think you can ever compare two games. Every game has different aspects -- different people, different levels of intensity, and I think we really stepped up today. Obviously, we had a great game against ithem last year to get to the Final Four, but it is a totally different game out there when you are playing for that championship."

(on the end of her Maryland career)
"I guess it is like (you say), a fairy tale. All good fairy tales have happy ending I guess so I was just playing that out. I feel like a five-year-old kid now, I can't stop smiling and I don't know what to do. It is the greatest feeling when you have a team that is so strong and are such great friends and they all put it out on the field for each other. We are national champions and we did it together. It is such a great feeling and I am proud to be a part of it."

(on the joy of winning and the sorrow of ending her collegiate career)
"I guess it is bittersweet. I would love to be able to play here forever, but that's not possible. I am just proud of all that we have accomplished. In my four years here, I have learned so much and it has all made me a better person. I am so glad to have been given the opportunities that I have and to have the opportunity to learn from the great coaches that I have and to be able to play with our players."

Allison Comito, Attack
(on her game-winning goal with :07 left)
"It's kind of a blur. All I remember is seeing Tori (Wellington) and calling for it and praying that I caught it, first of all, and then that I could get a good shot and I guess it worked out."

Tori Wellington, Midfield/Defense
(on her pass to Comito for the gamewinner)
"I wasn't exactly looking for anyone in particular. I was looking to kind of settle it because our coaches were calling for that and then I saw Al(lison Comito) wide open in the middle and I passed it to her and I think even before she shot the ball, I knew that it was going in. I just knew that she was going to do it."

(on the play of Alexis Venechanos)
"I was actually just talking to her about this before. I can't even explain how big Alexis came up today. I mean, I was probably the cause of a couple of those free position shots and she saved everything. She has been playing well and she just came in and lit it up today."

Alexis Venechanos, Goalie
(on her confidence as the game went on)
"I was actually confident the whole game. My teammates really supported me and I knew that if there was an opportunity to put my team in a good situation, I would do that. I just had faith in myself and in my teammates...it was actually a really fun game and I am just happy with the outcome."
