XIth FIFA World Youth Championship First Round Recap June 24, 2001
AND THEN THERE WERE 16 ... While the U.S. travels to Buenos Aires on Monday ahead of Wednesday's match with Egypt, other nations will be heading home after the World Youth Championship field was trimmed to 16 teams this past weekend. The U.S. finished second in their group after a 1-1 draw with Group C winners Ukraine, and will face Group A runner-ups Egypt on June 27 in Buenos Aires. Costa Rica proved to be the surprise of the first round, winning their first three matches to capture the Group E crown. The Ticos joined Brazil and Argentina as the only three teams to post perfect 3-0 records in the first round. Following is a complete schedule of the upcoming rounds, as well as a recap of the first round.
GALAVISION TO TELEVISE U.S. - EGYPT: The United States Under-20 Men's National Team will face Egypt on June 27 in a match that will be televised in the USA by Galavision. The match, which kicks off at 1 pm ET (2 pm local), will be shown on a same-day delay by Galavision. Galavision's East Feed (Eastern/Central/Mountain (except Arizona)) will show the Round-of-16 match at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT. Galavision's Pacific Feed (Pacific/Arizona/Alaska/Hawaii) will televise the game at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT. Following is Galavision's complete television schedule for the U.S. - Egypt match:
