
Terps Fourth In ACC Preseason Men's Soccer Coaches' Poll

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland men's soccer team has been selected preseason No. 4 by the Atlantic Coast Conference's head coaches in a poll released Thursday. 2000 ACC champion North Carolina was selected by the coaches as the preseason favorite to repeat for the conference crown.
Maryland, after suffering seven season-ending injuries in 2000, finished sixth in the ACC with a 1-5 record. The 2001 Terps return 12 letterwinners, including preseason All-Americans Beckett Hollenbach (Havertown, Pa.), Abe Thompson (Fairfax Station, Va.) and Philip Salyer (Dallas, Texas).
Maryland opens its exhibition season at Georgetown on Aug. 19 at 1 p.m. and continues at home on Aug. 24 vs. Richmond at 7 p.m. The Terps begin the regular season on Aug. 31 at the Virginia/Coca-Cola Classic against UCLA at 5 p.m. In the second day of the tournament on Sept. 2, Maryland meets Liberty at noon. Maryland's home schedule opens with 2000 Final Four participant Creighton at the Maryland/FILA Classic on Sept. 7 at 7:30 p.m. and continues against American on Sept. 9 at 2:30 p.m.
